At The Help Coalition, we are steadfast in our commitment to transforming the lives of underprivileged, unserved and underserved African American communities. Our work goes beyond traditional support, embracing a wholistic approach that addresses the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions of well-being. We envision a world where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, can access the comprehensive support they need to flourish. We deeply intertwine our mission, vision, and initiatives to create lasting, positive change and build a legacy of hope, resilience, and empowerment for future generations. Through our unwavering dedication, we aim to not only uplift individuals but also strengthen the very fabric of our community, fostering a brighter and more equitable future for all.
The Help Coalition Inc., was designed in January 2013 after being introduced to so many different populations of people, especially the African American population and aspects of individual personal circumstances that required extensive support just to survive and maintain some type of stability. So much of the population was either unserved, underserved and/or underprivileged due to lack of awareness and educational guidance. The Help Coalition Inc., was created in order to gain access to these populations to learn as much possible about the issues that effected our African American populations that no one ever talks about, especially our African American Juvenile System . So in 2016, officially, the non-profit called The Help Coalition Inc., was created. The Non-Profit started out with small community events that brough out youth, school age children and their families in need of support in multiple areas including mental health.
The Help Coalition Inc., had events such as: Back To School backpack and supply give away, community Easter Egg Hunt, family oriented community events and others would join to help donate back to the youth, school age children and underprivileged in Montgomery, AL. Once lack of awareness and support for our communities where brought to our attention, we decided to focus on working with underprivileged, unserved and underserved families, youth and school age children to help them grow on a continuous bases. What better place to help than in the schools system, working as a sub in the head start program and transitioning into a behavioral specialist in 2016, allowed the opportunity to get to know the students and their families and their needs. Working students and their families enable us to provide parental support and student support in and outside of school by helping them attain the necessary resources and support to help them successful transition in school and at home. As we began to advance in these areas, we started to work with other agencies through collaboration that provides in-school programs and support or sending therapist in to the school system. In 2018, we transition to Hoover, AL and became a transition counselor for Alabama Department of Rehabilitation (Homewood Office) where all counselors where assigned a budget to provide services in the multiple counties and school systems. These services includes guidance, counseling, and work/college tours. We also provide accommodations to students with disabilities not limited to special education. Mental health diagnosis such as autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and referrals for a multitude of services that provided support to parents and students are also provided.
These services are provided in the areas where there is a great need whether it be financial, transportation issues, school supplies and resource assistance, uniforms, diagnostic testing, living arrangements, acquiring work, and college tuition assistance. The Help Coalition Inc., assists with referrals to community rehabilitation programs such as The ARC of Central Alabama, Easter Seals, Goodwill, Glennwood, Workshops Inc, and United Ability. In 2020 we began to work with private owned mental health clinics that are also offered in school visits for school age children with a DSM-5 diagnosis (behavioral and mental health diagnosis) to provide group and private counseling. We also addresses behavioral concerns that involve violent offenses, Class 3 offense, suspensions, out-of-school suspensions, in-school suspensions and alternative school transfers based off the incident involving violent and/or mental health issues that had been committed. Services are currently still being provided through The Help Coalition Inc., and private mental health clinics in collaboration with multiple organizations to the Montgomery County, Birmingham City School Systems along with surrounding areas. Our family-run business company has a long tradition in the industry and it was founded in 1982 by Joey Lord, who passed the business onto his son, Roberto, in 2005. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding customer service in order to guarantee that all of our clients are 100% satisfied.
